Product Description:
Bentonite is used widely as a viscosifying agent for water-based mud systems for drilling applications.
Applications/Functions:
Bentonite is used as a mud additive for viscosity and filtration control.
Its roles are mainly to seal the borehole walls, to remove drill cuttings and to lubricate the cutting head. The bentonite extracts the drill cuttings from around the bit, which are then floated to the surface. The drilling mud, or gel, also serves to cool and lubricate the drill bit as well as seal the drill hole against seepage.
